About Procreate®
Procreate® is a complete, but inexpensive, art studio that works with iPads to make digital art. Procreate is the leading creative application made for iPad. Procreate has everything you need to create expressive sketches, rich paintings, gorgeous illustrations, and beautiful animations. Offering 100s of handmade brushes, a suite of industry-leading artistic tools, an advanced layer system, and the powerful Valkyrie graphics engine. It’s a complete art studio you can take anywhere. You can skip over having your traditional canvas or paper art photographed - your digital art can be uploaded directly to make fine art canvases or archival prints.
What You Will Learn in this Introductory Class:
This introductory class is designed for students with some prior traditional art experience. Students do not need to have their own iPad or working copy of Procreate®, at this stage. The 2 hour class will be a demonstration, as well as verbal instruction, with lots of opportunity to ask questions or seek hands-on assistance. There will be opportunities to continue classes based on demand.

Taking the next stepAbout the instructor: Heather Zak-Malcolm
Heather Zak-Malcolm began her career in the 1970s as a reporter, photojournalist, and newspaper editor in Toronto, Ontario. She was an award-winning daily newspaper columnist, a book author, professional photographer, and Toronto area newspaper editor. Widowed with a family of four children in her 30s, Heather went back to university and has since worked as a CEO or Director in the health and nonprofit sector, including a hospital, a hospice facility, a United Way and an Ontario Premier’s Council. She has also facilitated, organized or was a keynote or guest speaker at over 100 workshops, conferences, and other events.
Retired now from her CEO career, Heather follows a lifelong passion for creating visual arts. She has studied art and photography at TMU — Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), St. Clair College, and the Toronto School of Art. She has learned from such notable artists and instructors as Michael Binet, Rodney Begeron and Brian Burnett. Heather has worked with multiple arts media, including traditional media such as graphite, acrylic, oil, and watercolour, but has been a digital artist as well for many years. Originally, she worked with Corel and Adobe products, and moonlighted doing graphic illustration for some major companies. She currently also does website development for clients.
When first introduced to Procreate® for iPad several years ago, it rapidly became her art media of choice. Heather is writing a comprehensive book on Procreate®, to be published in 2025. Heather currently lives in a lovely woodland setting outside Renfrew, Ontario with her husband Mark and puppy Jazz Man. She is living the artists’ dream. You can see some of Heather’s Procreate® and other art at her Facebook or Instagram page at Winding Road Gallery.
Meet special guest; the Art Factory master, see his vision through his masterpieces. Patrick John Mills’ painting style varies from expressionist to abstract paintings. His paintings have been widely collected all over the world, and have been shown in numerous art exhibitions in Europe and in America.
I am privileged to call Joanne my art sister. Her unique artwork radiates a beautiful, loving energy that will elevate any space. Her passion is undeniable, and watching her paint live is truly a gift. Get ready to be captivated by her incredible creations.
Abby's artwork is deeply spiritual and mystical quality, connecting viewers in a way that is both energizing and uplifting. Her ability to elevate natural symbols like the moon, stars and trees offer a unique, almost otherworldly beauty.
Posy is a surrealist landscape artist whose work radiates inspiration and energy. Her dreamlike scenes transport viewers into imaginative worlds where nature and fantasy merge, inviting them to explore new dimensions of beauty and creativity.
Her abstract paintings are truly one of a kind. Her creative process involves painting vibrant, intricate pieces, only to deconstruct them by cutting them apart. She then reassembles the fragments into completely new dynamic layered compositions.
Inspired by her own landscape photographs, her art is about conveying the emotions and memories these captures evoke. She calls her works "emotional landscapes" inviting viewers to engage with her own personal experiences.
Art is my heart and my true passion. Every piece I create is an expression of my soul, and I live for the moment when it resonate with others. I'm excited to share my passion. My artwork is now available at my gallery, located at 106 St. Patrick St. in Merrickville, Ontario.
